 Questions About Headshot Photography

  • Yes of course! I am always thrilled to help individuals show off their best self and grow themselves professionally.

Individual sessions take place in my studio located in the middle of Colorado Springs.

  • A headshot is first and foremost meant to help you advertise to the world who you are as a professional. As such, if there is something that is DISTINCTLY YOU, it is my opinion that that is something to consider wearing.

General rules of thumb for headshot attire are to avoid bright and florescent colors and overly busy and distracting patterns. This is not to say that patterns are an absolute no go, just that they should not be too small or distract from the most important part of the photo: YOU!

As far as colors are concerned; Neutral colors and jewel tones tend to work best on camera.

  • Ensuring consistency in headshots, particularly for large teams or across different sessions, is a cornerstone of my photography service. My approach is a blend of artistry and meticulous planning.

Firstly, while my lighting setups may vary to suit each client's professional needs and desired emotional expression, I have honed my skills in artificial lighting to intuitively create the desired effects. For each client, I meticulously document key elements like the luminosity values of the background and the specific contrast and shadow levels on the face. This ensures that even if sessions are months apart, I can replicate the exact lighting conditions.

The choice of background plays a significant role in maintaining consistency. I prefer studio-style setups because they allow for better control and reliable replication of the shooting environment. Each background is selected to align with the client’s needs while ensuring uniformity in the overall look.

When returning for repeat sessions I reference a specific 'touchstone' image from our initial session, which guides the setup for subsequent shoots. This involves replicating the background appearance and light placement to match the established style.

In summary, my method combines a deep understanding of lighting and composition with careful documentation and referencing. This ensures that each headshot, whether taken on the same day or months apart, upholds a consistent, high-quality standard that reflects the professional image of your team.

  • The length in time spent with a person to get a headshot can vary widely as I am primarily focused on helping the person in front of the camera feel comfortable and able to be their natural self.

When working with large staffs I have processes that can move as quickly as 2 minutes per person, with a typical average time per person being around 5 minutes.

I work very hard to make sure that the experience never feels like school picture day where the person steps in, has 2 photos taken and they are moved out whether the photos were good or not. No matter the time crunch, I always make sure to give room for an individual to look through the photos we have taken with an option to step back in to take more if they aren’t satisfied with our first round.

When working in one on one sessions, the process generally lasts between 15 minutes and an hour depending on the individual and whether or not we are working to create more than one look.

  • I am always happy to travel to your location for any session with 3 or more individuals being photographed!

Other Common Questions

  • Yes!
I regularly photograph events for several of my corporate clients ranging from seasonal festivals and concerts, to corporate meetings, conventions, and dinners as well as weddings and other personal events.

  • I do indeed! My primary focus in my business is to help professionals and organizations achieve their goals of growth and prosperity through headshot and commercial photography.

That said; There are other types of photography I love to do professionally on occasion. This includes commercial product photography, senior portraits, weddings, family portraits and other things upon request.
If I ever feel as though I am not a great ft for your needs, I am more than happy to tap my connections in the photograph industry to get you connected with someone who will be your ideal photographer!

  • I am indeed! Several times a year I am asked by regular as well as first time clients to travel to their location. I offer competitive rates to travel to a location for shoots and am happy to provide quotes on a per project basis.
